Alexandra is 15 years old and is attending the 10th class of El Julio Cesar afternoon school. Her mother is one of the volunteers at this school. Alexandra had been trained by ADRA Peru how to work with children. Every morning she works with children ages 3-5, at ADRA’s prevention center located in her neighborhood in Lima. She works in addition to the training program for adults which main topic is Children’s Rights and Child Right for Education. Along with her education Alexandra takes care of a 2 year old boy named Axel. Axel’s mom works in the morning and has no relatives to help her with her son. “I like to work with small kids and I am eager to help. All children here at the center are unique”, says Alexandra.
Alexandra is a normal teenage girl with many skills. When she was little younger she learned how to make jewelry and chocolate products from one of the skill training courses at ADRA’s center. She got very good use out of the training since she was able to apply her skills and earn extra money by selling the products she had made herself. In addition she got financial support from many friends and neighbors. Today, Alexandra is giving skill training to young mothers and individuals related to the center. “I feel I made a difference for those attending the courses and learning from me about children’s rights and children right for education.”
“When ADRA Peru arrived in our neighborhood I decided to support the center, because children need help”, explain Alexandra. “The center changed my life and I have received new perspectives to help mainly others then myself!”
